Graduate and professional students will pay more for student loans. The Budget Control Act eliminates the in-school interest subsidy for graduate and professional students, so these folks will pay more interest over time.
This is just one of many extra burdens that lower and middle class people will have to shoulder as a result of Republicans jamming this idiotic all cuts no revenues approach to balancing the budget down our throats. This added expense will undoubtedly make the prospect of obtaining a graduate or professional degree less appealing and result in fewer Americans obtaining those degrees. Fewer people going on to become experts in things such as the sciences means that America’s technological superiority will continue to wane at an even greater rate. This makes America weaker both economically and militarily. This is bad.
